Application Process
This program is scheduled to begin Fall Semester 2009. The final deadline to submit your complete application packet to the Graduate School is Friday, February 20, 2009. Only applications that are complete by 5:00 p.m. will be considered. APPLY ONLINE! Obtain additional application forms here.
- Non-refundable $30.00 application fee (paid one time only).
- One official transcript from each college or university attended. If you attended the University of West Georgia, the
Graduate School will request a copy of this transcript for you. - Three letters of recommendations on official letterhead stationery. Academic letters are preferred although other professional letters will be accepted. Letters must arrive in sealed, signed envelopes. Please provide this completed form to those submitting letters of recommendation on your behalf.
- An official Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Score. GRE scores will be considered in the applicant’s profile. The minimum GRE test score requirement is 800 (at least a 400 verbal score, at least a 500 quantitative score) and an Analytical Writing score of at least 3.5. - A complete vitae listing contact information (including email address), educational background, employment history, awards and recognitions, presentations, etc.
- A reflective essay describing why you are drawn to this particular program and how you understand transformation in relation to consciousness and society. The essay should include a statement of how you imagine the program will contribute to your future plans.
- Satisfactory Certificate of Immunization – Required of new students only

Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree will be considered, although applicants with graduate degrees, e.g. a Master’s degree are preferred. Those with degrees outside of psychology are welcome as well as those with degrees in the field of psychology. Additional courses in the Department of Psychology at the University of West Georgia may be required due to disciplinary background or level of educational attainment.
* DISCLAIMER * – As stated in the application guidelines to the psychology doctoral program, there are no absolute cutoff levels for grade point average and Graduate Record Examination scores. However, these factors will be taken into consideration by the admissions committee. The Graduate School will utilize minimum admissions requirements for the MA in Psychology program as its guidelines. All files that meet the criteria that are stated on the departmental checklist (please see above list for more information) will be considered by the admissions committee. When there is a discrepancy, applications will be reviewed on a case by case basis. Please understand that these are minimum requirements and the Department of Psychology is subject to change these criteria at any time..
