Description: Topics in trigonometry and analytic geometry.

Prerequisite: MATH1111. A graphing calculator is required and a TI-83 is recommended.

Course Objectives: The student will be taught how to find the values of the trig functions from right triangles and circles, understand the graphs of the trigonometric functions, how to prove trigonometric identities, sum, difference, double angle and half angle formulas, how to solve triangles using the law of sines and law of cosines, an understanding of polar coordinates and their graphs and conic sections and their graphs. Applications of mathematics to real world problems will be stressed. When feasible, historical notes will be discussed to emphasize that mathematics is a human endeavor.

Evaluation Policy: Ten quizzes 20 points each, four 1-hour tests 100 points each and a comprehensive final exam for 200 points.

Grading Policy: A(90-100), B(80-89), C(70-79), D(60-69) and F (0-60)

Attendance Policy: Students are expected to attend all classes. If a class is missed, the student is responsible for material and assignments. Quizzes and tests can not be made up.

Recommendations: It is recommended that students review new material before class, take notes, complete all assignments, review material weekly and work chapter reviews. This will require approximately 15 hours per week outside of class and should ensure a passing grade.
