Psychological Services


An introduction to the field of psychological services which will explore a variety of services and their meaning for human experience and human growth.
 

Course Objectives:
 
To introduce students to field-related career path expectations and opportunities.

To orient students with respect to professional issues and considerations, e.g., ethical guidelines, licensure laws, theoretical and research literature.

To explore a variety of psychological and human services and their meaning for human experience and human growth for both helpers and helpless.

To encourage students to explore avenues open to them for field-related practicum and internship experiences and employment.
 

Required reading:

Class handouts on selected relevant topics.
Other readings typically self-selected — as related to each student’s particular areas of interest.
 

Course requirements:

Interviews with professional working in psychological service areas.
Clarification of matters of concern or consequence regarding psychological services and career path considerations.
Written reports.
Exams.
Participation in professional workshop or conference.
Oral presentations.
 

Course evaluation:
Summary reports of field-related interviews or activities.
Mid-term exam.
Final exam.
Research paper.
