Advanced Organizational Development

 


Course Description :

An analysis of the processes for organizational development and renewal with emphasis on individual and organizational health. Special attention will be given to effective processes for change agentry in the organizational context.

The purpose of this course will be to provide an opportunity to gain a more advanced appreciation of organizational development (OD) and change, the relationship between the OD Consultant and client, and some basic orientation to pertinent topics within the field.
 

Course Objectives:

· Learn more about OD and its impact on the organization.

· Develop a deeper understanding of OD interventions and improvement methodologies.

· Become versed in the current “hot” topics within the field.

· Learn about the basic components of a consulting relationship.

· Learn some of the considerations for establishing and building strong communications with the client.

· Deepen one’s understanding of self and others.

· Gain a deeper appreciation of the OD profession.

· Continue to develop and apply the ability to analyze and synthesize issues related to the psychological context presented through this course.

· French, W.L & Bell, C.H., Jr. (1990). Organization development: Behavioral science interventions for organization improvement. 4th Ed. Englewood Cliffs, NJ: Prentice-Hall, Inc.
· Block, Peter. (1981). Flawless consulting: A guide to getting our expertise used. San Diego: Pfeiffer & Company.
 

Course Assignments:
· Read the required textbooks and prepare for weekly in-class discussions.
· Written proposal for prospective client (as part of student OD consulting team).
· Attend at least one meeting of the Organizational Change Alliance (OCA) or the Society for Human Resource Management.
· Completion of a resume toward the OD or related field.
· Final Exam (essay format).
