Mission Statement:
Holy Names College offers three graduate
programs in Counseling Psychology for persons of varying spiritual traditions
who wish to develop counseling skills. These programs are unique in integrating
spirituality with sound theoretical and field-based learning in Counseling
Psychology. The first, M.A. in Counseling Psychology, leads to M.F.T.
licensure by the Board of Behavioral Sciences. The M.A. in Pastoral
Counseling provides training to counsel in hospitals, churches and other
community based organizations. In addition, a Certificate in Pastoral
Counseling is available for those who wish to work in Pastoral Ministries.
The faculty consists of clinicians with diverse religious and spiritual
backgrounds, offering students a rich experiential and didactic learning
experience, enhanced by written exercises, case studies and simulations.
The integration is further fostered by reflection journals and scholarly
papers. By the end of the program, students will be able to demonstrate
clinical competence and clear understanding of professional responsibilities.
