Dr. Melanie McClellan
VP for Student
Services
and Dean of Students
Dr. Melanie McClellan has been Vice President for Student Services and Dean of Students since 2000. She also occasionally teaches Introduction to Career Counseling, as well as independent studies for graduate students interested in student affairs careers in the department of Counseling & Educational Psychology. Prior to coming to UWG, Dr. McClellan worked as the Community Education Coordinator for the Bremen City Schools; Admissions Counselor at Georgia Southwestern College; Hall Director, Residence Life Coordinator, Associate Director of Housing, and Director of Housing and Residence Life at Mississippi State University; Student Personnel Associate for the Association of College & University Housing Officers-International; Career Counselor for faculty and staff at The Ohio State University; and as Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Interim Vice President for Student Affairs at Georgia Southern University.
She graduated from Bremen High School, and received her Bachelor’s degree in Communication from The University of Alabama, her Master’s degree in Counseling/College Student Personnel from Mississippi State, and her Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Ohio State, with a focus on student development theory.
Dr. McClellan has been active in the Southern Association for College Student Affairs, having served as Vice President for Constituent Relations, Program Chair, Foundation Board Chair, and on the 2000 and 2007 Blue Ribbon Task Forces on SACSA’s Future. She is a long-time member of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators and the American College Personnel Association. She served on the faculty of the 1999, 2002, 2003, and 2004 NASPA Region III/SACSA 2004 Mid-Managers Institute, and on the faculty of the 1996 ACUHO-I National Housing Training Institute. She served as a Campus Study Team Member for the American Association of State Colleges and Universities 2005 Graduation Rate Outcomes Project, and has served on two University System of Georgia committees related to improving student retention, progression, and graduation. She has published six journal articles and presented more than 40 sessions at professional conferences.
She is a member of Carrollton Rotary and has previously served as Secretary for West Georgia Habitat for Humanity and President of the Bremen Educational Foundation. In Fall 2005, she co-directed UWG’s Hurricane Katrina shelter project, which housed approximately 200 evacuees in a closed residence hall on campus for six weeks.

Dr. Scot Lingrell
Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management
Dr. Scot Lingrell has been the Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management since 2005. He has direct responsibility for the offices of Undergraduate Admission, Financial Aid, Excel Center for Academic Success (Advising), Student Affairs Web and Technology, and the Registrar. More...
After receiving his Masters of Arts in College Student Personnel and Guidance and Counseling in 1992, Dr. Lingrell began his professional career as an Academic Advisor and then an Assistant Director of Admission at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. In 1996 he became the Associate Director of Admissions at the University of Toledo and directed all recruitment and outreach efforts as well as supervised Scholarships and Recruitment Publications.
In 2000 Dr. Lingrell moved to Rhodes State College, in Lima, Ohio, to become the Director of Student Advising and Development. While there, he assumed two additional roles, first becoming the Director of Admissions and Advising and later becoming the Associate Dean of Enrollment Management. At this same time, he finished his Ph. D. in Higher Education Administration at Ohio University.
