University of West Georgia
Theatre Arts Program

The New Triple Threat
Technology, Opportunity, Performance

On April 10, 2003 the Theatre Program at the University of West Georgia received notice of accreditation through the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST). What does this mean? The theatre curriculum, both in the classroom and in the rehearsal room, meets the high national standard that is set by NAST. The UWG Theatre Program is only one of five theatre programs with national accreditation in the state of Georgia.

Why should you come to West Georgia? Because we keep the students in mind first and foremost!  Where else do theatre students gain the experience of not only acting and designing shows in the mainstage season, but also writing plays, directing them and publicizing them? Nowwhere else but West Georgia! Theatre faculty are designing and directing in Atlanta, publishing in regional and national magazines and journals and keeping themselves updated on the latest theatrical trends.  All in order to bring new ideas to the classroom and the rehearsal room.

Starting in the summer of 2003, the theatre program will be moving to the newly refurbished Martha Munro building. This new Theatre headquarters will contain state-of-the-art equipment in the Computer Aided Design lab, the sound lab and the drafting/light lab. The acting/directing lab has a newly built sprung floor (to help keep ankle and knee joints healthy and strong) as well as the beautifully restored purpose-built proscenium arch. Check out our exciting 2003--2004 season; read through the course and theatre major handbook materials. The University of West Georgia Theatre Program is growing and gaining a strong reputation. Come join the excitement!

".......I met professors in West Georgia who cared about a theatre education that provided a bridge between academe and the professional world. I also discovered that your faculty was as eager to learn from my workshop as the students, the sign of true post-secondary educators. I was charmed by the multi-national hospitality of the theatre department; your diverse faculty precludes the use of the otherwise appropriate expression Southern hospitality. A school is only as good as its students, though, and I was quite pleasantly surprised by the thirst for learning and cooperative spirit that were exceedingly evident within your students......"
