Dr. John Fuller's book getting rave reviewsMay 15, 2006 CARROLLTON, GA - Dr. John Fuller, professor of criminology at the University of West Georgia, is still receiving rave reviews for his text book, “Criminal Justice: Mainstream and Crosscurrents,” published in 2005. Fuller’s work recently garnered the 2006 Texty Textbook Excellence Award by the Text and Academic Authors Association (TAA). Fuller has been teaching at UWG since 1981 and worked in the field of criminology in Florida for years before coming to Carrollton. He served as a probation and parole officer for the Florida Probation and Parole Commission and worked in Broward County where he managed a caseload of more than 100 felons. He also served as a criminal justice planner for the Palm Beach Metropolitan Criminal Justice Planning Unit. The book reflects his work experience and teaching skills and asks students to think critically about goals and processes of the criminal justice system. “The field of criminal justice is not a deep, still pond where one can see the bottom through crystal clear water,” said Fuller. “Rather, it is like a fast and moving stream with currents, crosscurrents, eddies, rapids and hydraulics.” TAA created the Texty in 1992 to recognize current textbooks and learning materials. In 1991, Fuller received the College of Arts and Sciences Faculty Member of the Year Award and in 2001 he was given the Professor of the Year award by the UWG Honors College.
