Conflict Management

Conflicts in any work environment are inevitable
.

Difficulties in such areas as communication, working styles and departmental policies often lead to disagreements among co-workers, most of which are resolved by the parties involved without assistance. Faculty, staff and students at the University of West Georgia are encouraged to seek resolution of any conflict through such informal discussion.

If you are unable to reach a solution through informal discussion, guidance and referral assistance is available through the Ombuds OfficeThe Ombuds may refer employees to the mediation services of the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Program at the University of West Georgia.

Mediation is a form of dispute resolution in which a trained mediator helps parties in conflict to negotiate a mutually satisfying resolution. For more on this service, check out the UWG Alternative Dispute Resolution Website.

CONTACT OMBUDS OFFICE - for guidance/assistance in assessing your problem and working towards resolving the conflict before seeking mediation services. You can also contact the Ombuds to schedule an on-campus workshop regarding conflict resolution for students, staff or faculty.
