The African-American Male Initiative (AAMI) program is a thrust of the University System of Georgia (USG), the purpose of which is to increase retention, progression, and graduation (RPG) rates of African American male students at University System of Georgia institutions. The AAMI program at the University of West Georgia is bearing fruit in terms of overall higher retention rates for AAMI students. AAMI at UWG consists of African-American Male Initiative Learning Communities, orientation programs, mentoring, social and educational programming, Black Men Encouraging Success Today (BEST), and Black Men With Initiative (BMWI). The program coordinator for AAMI at the University of West Georgia is Ms. Cheryl Thomas Hill.
