Admission to the University does not guarantee admission to a specific college or department. The College of Education, Richards College of Business, and certain programs in the College of Arts & Sciences have additional admission requirements which must be met before a student can begin taking upper division classes in their degree program. It is the student's responsibility to contact the appropriate academic department for additional admission requirements upon acceptance to the University granted by the Office of Admissions.
Special Circumstances:
To be classified as a non-traditional student, you must:
- have graduated five or more years ago from high school (or your high school class must have graduated at least five years ago);
- hold a high school diploma from an accredited or approved high school as specified in Section 4.2.1.1 of this Policy Manual or have satisfactorily completed the GED
If you qualify as a non-traditional applicant, certain admission requirement can be waived; however, you may be required to complete the COMPASS (Computer-adaptive college placement test) and receive a qualifying score. Visit our Nontraditional Applicant Page for information regarding the COMPASS exam.
Applicants who have completed an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree are eligible for an easy transfer provided they do not change majors and have completed the core curriculum required for their program of study. Associate of Applied Science degree holders are not eligible for this consideration.
- If you have previously earned a baccalaureate degree, but wish to receive a second baccalaureate degree, you would apply as a transfer student. If you wish to meet teacher certification requirements without earning a second baccalaureate degree, you must apply to a Graduate Program. You must also apply to Graduate Studies if you have earned a baccalaureate degree, but want to take undergraduate and graduate courses for personal enrichment.

What will Transfer?
For course equivalency reports, please visit our transfer course equivalency site. UWG course equivalents listed are for reference only. All course equivalents are subject to change upon official evaluation by the UWG Registrar's Office. The listing or exclusion of courses from this program does not reflect on the acceptability of the courses to UWG. Courses listed reflect results from previously reviewed transcripts and in no case should this list be considered final and/or a complete listing. Upon acceptance to the University, you will receive a complete, official evaluation of your coursework.
What happens after admission to the University?
- The Registrar's Office will complete a transfer evaluation based on previous college coursework. This evaluation will indicate the transfer GPA on all work attempted and it will also identify courses that are used to fulfill CPC deficiencies and Core Curriculum requirements. This evaluation is crucial to the advisement process. All students must meet with an academic adviser before registering for classes.
- Transfer students must attend an Orientation session before the first term of enrollment. The Orientation session will include time for academic advisement prior to registration. Advisement is particularly important for transfer students since previous college credit has been earned. Orientation programs are scheduled at the beginning of each semester and throughout the summer. Check with the Office of Admissions for exact dates. Please remember to contact the particular academic department you wish to major in for additional admission requirements for your particular degree program.
If you have work and personal responsibilities that do not allow attendance during regularly scheduled class periods, check the semester bulletin of classes for evening offerings. There are several undergraduate programs which can be completed at night including the Bachelor of Science in Criminology and the Bachelor of Business Administration. Contact the Office of Admissions for more information.
