Freshman
A freshman applicant must submit the following items before an admissions decision can be made:
- $30 non-refundable application fee (on July 1st, 2012 the application fee will rise to $40.00)
- Official High School Transcripts mailed directly from the high school to Office of Admissions*

All required documents to determine admission eligibility MUST be received in the Office of Admissions no later than the established term application and document deadline date.
*Students who attend high school outside of the United States must submit their high school transcript for foreign credential evaluation. We accept evaluations from any current member of NACES, http://www.naces.org/, but we recommend using the Josef Silny Evaluation Service in Miami, FL., http://www.jsilny.com/

A freshman applicant must meet all the following minimum admission criteria:
- SAT Verbal score of 430 or ACT English score of 17 AND
- SAT Math score of 410 or ACT Math score of 17 AND
- Complete college prep high school diploma requirements and all 16 required units of College Preparatory Curriculum (CPC)* AND
- Freshman Index of 2050
- The Freshman Index is calculated as follows:
- SAT : Freshman Index = (Academic High School GPA x 500) + combined Critical Reading and Math SAT scores
- ACT: Freshman Index = (Academic High School GPA x 500) + (ACT Composite x 42) + 88
*Requirements subject to change based on Board of Regents and University directives.*
College Preparatory Curriculum (CPC) / Required High School Curriculum (RHSC) requirements include:
- English - 4 RHSC / CPC units which have their emphasis in grammar and usage, literature (American, English, world), and advanced composition skills.
- Mathematics - 4 RHSC / CPC units including Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, and a higher level math.
- Science - 4* RHSC / CPC Carnegie units required with at least one laboratory course from the life sciences and one laboratory course from the physical sciences.
- Social Science - 3 RHSC / CPC units with at least one course focusing on United States studies and one course focusing on world studies.
- Foreign Language - 2 RHSC / CPC units in the same foreign language emphasizing speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
*For the Graduating Class of 2012 or Later:
Students graduating in 2012 or later must complete a Required High School Curriculum Diploma that includes 17 University System of Georgia approved Carnegie units, including a 4th science and a 4th year of Advanced Math. Students graduating prior to 2012 need only 3 science courses.
What happens after admission to the University?
Certificate of Immunization: All immunization documentation must be recorded and submitted on a UWG Certificate of Immunization Form!
Residence Hall Information: Once accepted to the University, residence hall application/information is mailed in 7-10 days following acceptance. All freshmen who live outside the 30 mile radius of Carrollton are required to live on campus and purchase a meal plan, unless all courses are taken online. Questions about campus housing can be answered by contacting the Residence Life Office.
Financial Aid/HOPE Scholarship: All students wishing to be considered for federal financial aid programs must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. West Georgia's Title IV code is 001601. All students wishing to be considered for the HOPE scholarship must complete the GSFAPPS (Georgia Student Finance application) at http://www.gacollege411.org/. Students interested in both federal aid and the HOPE scholarship must complete both applications.
New Student Advisement/Orientation/Registration: All new students are required to attend an orientation session in order to be advised and to register for classes. You will be sent information via mail regarding orientation online registration. Once you have registered and paid online you will be sent a confirmation letter in the mail. Excel Center: The Excel Center is devoted to the success and welfare of all UWG students and serves as a resource to their parents as well. The Excel Center offers academic advising for students with undeclared majors, career exploration, free tutoring, peer mentors, and training in study habits and basic computer knowledge.
Disabled Student Services: The Student Development Center coordinates special services for disabled students. Assistance is available for students with a temporary or permanent physical or psychological disability or learning disorder. University Undergraduate Catalog: The Office of Admissions does not mail catalogs. Catalogs are available online.
