To be admitted into this program students must complete Core Areas A-E with a cumulative GPA (including all transfer credit) of 2.5 or better AND have earned a satisfactory grade on the Regents Reading and Essay Exams.
Sociology is the scientific study of society, including patterns of social relationships, social interaction, and culture. The Sociology degree program provides majors with a working knowledge of sociological theory and research methodologies, knowledge of findings relevant to issues of diversity, skills for the preparation and presentation of research reports, skills related to researching and seeking positions in the job market and in graduate education, and ethics.
Possible Careers
Community Organizer, Counselor, Lawyer, Lobbyist, Public Health Worker, Social Worker and Sociologist are a few of the more obvious career choices. But many sociology majors also find careers in the fields of Advertising, Criminology, Demography, Labor Relations, Management, Market Research, Public Relations and Urban Planning, to name a few.
