Creating Opportunities
“My research experience has made the greatest impact on my career decisions. Researching the organic synthesis of anticancer compounds was the catalyst that sparked my interest in medical research. I am grateful for the financial support I receive through the Annual Fund’s Scholarship Program. The University of West Georgia has truly provided me ‘Educational Excellence in a Personal Environment.’”
Good grades, along with an impressive high school resume of activities and awards, helped get Bette’ Ford on West Georgia’s campus in 2005. The numerous student opportunities at West Georgia are helping her achieve her goal to become a doctor.
The opportunity to conduct undergraduate research in her freshman year was just one of many important educational experiences that influenced her career choice. The UWG senior says involvement in a wide variety of activities has helped improve her college experience and prepare her for her journey in life. Such broad preparation, coupled with strong university support, has enabled her to attend Stanford University’s Pre-medical Summer Program and Howard University’s Amgen Scholar Research Program, as well as present research at the prestigious National Conference on Undergraduate Research.
