Media Day is the Department of Mass Communications’ premiere annual event to connect students with accomplished communications leaders and recognize academic and professional success.
9:30 – 10:40 am, Campus Center Ballroom
A panel of diverse communications professionals will share knowledge about current and emerging trends in the communications industries, offer advice on landing your first communications position, and answer questions from the student audience.
10:45 am -12:15 pm, Corridor outside the Campus Center Ballroom
Current University of West Georgia students are invited to talk with communications professionals, one-on-one or in small groups, about keys to success in the communications industries. The Networking Sessions are structured in a “speed networking” format to allow for maximum networking in a short period of time.
12:30 – 2:00 pm
Students, alumni, and university faculty and staff are invited to celebrate the outstanding achievements of Mass Communications students and alumni at the annual Honors Luncheon.
The Media Day 2014 Distinguished Alumni Award will be presented to Nuria Baldello-Sole, Associate Director of Social Media, Razorfish. The Media Day 2014 Distinguished Service Award will be presented to Dr. N. Jane McCandless, Dean, College of Social Science. Mass Communications student Excellence Awards, Academic Achievement Awards and Professional Development Awards will be presented at the Honors Luncheon. 2013-2014 Mass Communications scholarship recipients and the recipient of the Gordon Watson Award will also be recognized.

Discounted tickets ($10) may be purchased from the Mass Communications Office by March 1.
Alumni, professionals, students, and others are invited to meet up with new connections and old friends for light conversation at The Border restaurant on Maple Street (across from campus).
Student Award Applications
Mass Communications majors at UWG are encouraged to apply for departmental awards to be presented at Media Day. Seniors are eligible to apply for Excellence Awards. Juniors and seniors are eligible to apply for Professional Development Awards. Applications are due Friday, February 14.

Parking will be available in the Townsend Center gated lot (please arrive between 8:30 am and 11:50 pm)
Student volunteers will direct you from the parking lot to the Campus Center.

Student Workshop February 26
Student Workshop: “Making the most of Media Day 2014”
Wednesday, February 26, 4:30-5:30 pm, Campus Center 108.3
Though Media Day is a one-day, once-a-year opportunity, this workshop will help students maximize the Media Day experience. Practice giving an “elevator speech,” understand body language, and learn the right way to follow up with professionals. Current UWG students are invited to attend this workshop co-sponsored by the Department of Mass Communications and Career Services. Refreshments and door prizes!
