Retired Faculty/Staff Reunion Recap: Our annual event was held on July 17, 2010 in the lower level of Z-6. We had over 100 people turn out to honor our new retirees! This capstone event allows current and former employees to reunite in fellowship. Honorees were able to mingle with current and former colleagues, friends and family. It is always great to see so many of the honorees present. Food and beverages were provided by the Alumni and Development Office and entertainment was provided by pianist Bernie Wong. We thank Anne and Fred Richards for providing wine for the event. The Retiree Class of 2009-2010 included the following folks, most of whom were in attendance:
Patricia Arp, Anita Immele, Linda Picklesimer, Martha Bonner, George Keller, William Schaniel, J.W. Brown, William Lankford, Jamie Shirey, Susan Colgate, Gloria Laseter, Loretta Smith, Cita Cook, Mary Frances McLure, Susan Smith, Sylvia Cook, Jerry Mock, Clifford Swint, Henry Garrison, Delores Moore, Wilma Terrell, Tony Grizzard, Maxine Newsome, Georgia White, Margaret Hughes, Alexa North and Walter Wilcox.
Congratulations and welcome to ARFS!
A nice addition to this most recent retiree reunion was the inclusion of a continuous projected slide show of photos of UWG retirees doing their favorite kinds of retirement activities. This was Frank Pritchett’s idea based on a similar display used by some groups during alumni events, and we certainly hope to keep it going for our 2011 reunion. See the request below.
Special thanks to Anne Richards and Martha Ann Saunders for their excellent and hard work in putting together this year’s Tribute Book. They do a wonderful job each year so that we have a lasting memento of our annual reunion. A special thanks to Dale Duffey, Dotti Green, Frank Pritchett, Steven Broome and Sally Roberts for continuing to support ARFS.
2011 Retiree Reunion: Our annual event to honor this year’s retirees and to reunite with former friends and colleagues will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 16 in the lower level of Z-6. Please mark your calendars and try to attend.
Retiree Photos: At this year’s reunion, we would again like to project a slide show up on wall screens of retirees enjoying their favorite activities. Photos of hobbies, trips, family and friends are all appropriate--whatever you are doing to enjoy your retirement! This will provide all of us with an enjoyable prelude to the evening of refreshments and awards. Send one or more prints showing what you’ve been doing to Frank Pritchett at the Alumni House (1601 Maple Street, Carrollton, GA 30118) or e-mail photos in JPEG format to him at fpritche@westga.edu. He will take it from there. We promise you will get your prints back in the mail, and you will enjoy seeing what your former colleagues have been up to these past years.
Next ARFS Planning Meeting: Please try to attend our next planning meeting at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 11 at the Alumni House. We will continue updating our list of this year’s retirees, address issues relating to the 2011 Retiree Reunion in July, and discuss other items of interest to our family of UWG retired staff and faculty. We welcome all attendees and appreciate new ideas for things to do.
Retiree Medallions: The Office of Development and Alumni Relations and the Association of Retired Faculty and Staff continue to make the medallions available free of charge to any retiree who did not previously receive one. The medallion is bronze with the university logo on the obverse and the engraving on the reverse, and hangs from a ribbon. The engraving shows your name, department, and years of service. To obtain your medallion, contact Dale Duffey at 678- 839-6582 or dduffey@westga.edu.
Third Thursday ARFS Travel Programs: Jan Ruskell began a travel program for the ARFS group in 2009. It meets the third Thursday of every month at 11:00 a.m. in the Neva Lomason Library.
