2012 Retiree Reunion: Please be sure to come to our annual Retiree Reunion at Noon on Saturday, September 15, 2012. You should have already received an invitation to this event in the mail.  Remember that our annual shindig is really a reunion to get all of our retired faculty and staff back together again.  The additional bonus is to recognize the latest retirees for each year and to congratulate all of them.  Last year we had a great turnout and hope for a repeat this year.  We will again be in the Lower Level of Z-6 with access to the outdoor patio area, but this year we will host a lunch rather than an evening event.  Dress is casual, and the “backyard cookout” and drinks are complimentary.  Retiree medallions will be given out to our honorees.

Here is the list of them for this year’s Retiree Reunion: Michael Andryc, Linda Brown, Mary Brown, Romeree Cospy, Elmira Eidson, Linda Fender, Larry Frazier, Gerald Hall, Cheryl Huggins, Jack Jenkins, Ricky Martin, Melanie McClellan, Linda Painter, James Parmer, Judi Petty, Larry Robinson, Sharon Shackleford, Lorraine Sposato-Allen, Karl Steinen, Walter Todd, Donald Wagner, Wanda Williams

Please RSVP by September 7 to Dale Duffey at (678) 839-6582. You are welcome to bring your spouse, friend, or significant other. We look forward to seeing you all there, and if you already have a UWG retiree medallion, please wear it for this special occasion.

FYI: The Georgia Association of Higher Education Retiree Organizations (GA-HERO) is being established. GA-HERO is a Georgia network of college and university–based retiree organizations that wish to organize to create awareness that campus-based retiree groups are beneficial to both retirees and the campuses on which they are based.

If you are interested in participating as a charter member, attend the next organizational meeting: Friday, October 5 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Georgia Archives—5800 Jonesboro Rd., Morrow, GA. For more info or to RSVP, contact David C. Ewert or John Bugge.

UWG Phone Directory Updates

UWG Phone Directory Updates: Annually, retirees are mailed the new UWG Faculty/Staff Directory, which includes a listing of our current faculty/staff in the front and our retirees in the back. We need your help in keeping your information updated. So, when you receive the 2012-2013 copy, please take a moment to look at your listing and verify that all your information is correct—especially your e-mail address. If you are not listed and want to be, contact us and we will include you in the next directory. This publication is a very useful tool in helping us all to stay connected to our current and retired faculty and staff, but its usefulness is based on its accuracy. Find an error? Want to be added? Send an email to Glenn Novak with the information.

Retiree Medallions: The Office of Development and Alumni Relations and the Association of Retired Faculty & Staff continue to make the medallions available free of charge to any retiree who did not previously receive one. The medallion is bronze with the university logo on the obverse and the engraving on the reverse, and hangs from a ribbon.  The engraving shows your name, department, and years of service.  To obtain your medallion, contact Dale Duffey at 678- 839-6582.

Perhaps you would like to do a talk on a book you’ve written or some research you are working on?

Information/Announcements to Share: We now have 175 retirees signed up on the ARFS listserv! As a member of the listserv, you can send announcements or share information with other retirees and you will receive announcements posted to it. If you have information to share with the group, in the “To” field on your email, simply type the address: UWG-ARFS@westga.edu.

To sign up for our listserv, just email Debbie Novak or Glenn Novak, and we will sign you up. Also, remember that if you’ve changed your email address, you have to notify us so we can update you on the ARFS listserv.
