September 2007
Retired Faculty and Staff Reunion Recap: Our annual event was held on July 14, 2007 in the recently renovated Martha Munro Building. Despite a torrential downpour just as the party was set to get underway, we had about 80 people turn out to honor our new retirees! This capstone event allows current and former employees to reunite in fellowship. Honorees were able to mingle with current and former colleagues, friends and family. It was great to see so many of the honorees present. Food and beverages were provided by the Alumni and Development Office and entertainment was provided by Joel Aubel and his band. The Retiree Class of 2006-2007 include: Ozzie Binion, Ray Crook, Bill and Peggy Gauthier, Dot Geter, Betsy Griffies, Leland Gustafson, Myron House, Cecilia Lee, Winston Pickett, Harold Phillips, Robert Snyder and Rob Tornow. Welcome!
ARFS Website: We hope you are enjoying our Website, chocked full of items of interest for you. It is designed to keep retired faculty and staff up-to-date on events, activities and perks that are available to UWG retirees. Feel free to give us any feedback or suggestions.
Trips: We hope to identify some person or persons among our ranks who will take a leadership role in helping our group plan some trips to locales such as the High Museum, Georgia Aquarium, etc. We might negotiate group discounts and take a university bus to keep costs low and make the trip more convenient. If you are interested in taking charge of this, please e-mail Glenn Novak . Let's get the bus rolling!
Retiree Medallions: The Office of Development and Alumni Relations and the Association of Retired Faculty and Staff continue to make the retirement medallions available. As it turns out, it is not to late to place your order if you have not yet done so. This effort is an attempt to make available, free of charge, the special medallions to all faculty and staff who have retired from UWG. The medallion hangs from a ribbon and is bronze with the university logo on the obverse and the engraving on the reverse. The engraving shows your name, department and years of service. It will be available to all who didn't receive on of these at our earlier receptions (or didn't receive one in the mail). If you didn't order or receive one of these medallion, and you would like one as a memento of all your years of service to UWG, we have a procedure in place. Simply contact Dale Duffey at 678-839-6582 or via e-mail, and give her your name as you would like it to appear engraved on the reverse side of the medallion, your former department or division, and your years of service. She will take it from there and will place a subsequent order and mail it to you.
Alumni and Retiree Travel Opportunities: The university of West Georgia National Alumni Association in partnership with Gustafson Travel is planning tours to New Zealand/Australia and Egypt in 2008. For detailed information, contact Gustafson Travel.
