Confidentiality of Student Records
Under the provisions of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, West Georgia has established policies concerning the confidentiality of student educational records. In accordance with the Act, students of West Georgia are notified that, among other rights, they have the right to seek correction of the contents of these records, to place an explanatory note in a record when a challenge is not successful, and to control (with certain exceptions) the disclosure of the contents of their records. University officials may provide Directory Information concerning a student unless the student files a Non-Disclosure Form with the Registrar's Office. This form must be filed annually by September 15 to assure that locater information not be published in the student directory. Directory Information includes name, address, telephone listing, major field of study, dates of attendance, previous institutions attended, degrees and awards received, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, height and weight of members of athletic teams, photograph, and full or part-time status.
