Graduate Student Research Celebration
April 15 2009
Event Guidelines:
The Celebration of Graduate Student Research will be an afternoon and early evening event, held in the Education Building Lobby and Room 1, designed to showcase the breadth and depth of research produced by graduate students on this campus. The event will allow students the opportunity to participate in panel discussions drawing together papers from related disciplines or a poster session of work from a variety of disciplines. Judges will present awards for outstanding conference papers and poster presentations at a reception that evening. Poster sessions and conference panel discussions will be open to the entire university community.
Eligibility and Application Process:
Students who were enrolled in a graduate program at the University of West Georgia during the 2008 academic year are eligible to submit work for the event. Students should apply through their departments and may submit work that was part of a thesis or dissertation, a course project, creative piece or independent research project, so long as that work draws upon resources and knowledge gained through graduate study at the University. Students should indicate on their application whether they will be entering the poster competition or seeking a place on a conference panel. Departments may nominate up to four students for the panel discussions and fifteen students for the poster sessions. Names of those students selected by their departments must be submitted to the Graduate School by March 13, 2009, so as to allow the committee time to organize a panel schedule. Departments should set their own deadlines for the selection process accordingly. Students presenting on a panel should be prepared to deliver a 10-15 minute conference presentation on their subject.
