Mission
The mission of the Area of Special Education is to prepare exemplary practitioners with the professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions to deliver evidence based practices to diverse individuals with exceptional needs.
- Our Baccalaureate degree program prepares candidates to acquire the professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions for establishing effective practice.

- Our Master of Education degree programs prepare candidates to expand their professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions for enhancing effective practice through the exploration of new knowledge and the comprehension of research constructs.

Degree Programs

B.S.Ed. in Special Education-General Curriculum
Candidates who successfully complete this program and other requirements of the state certification agency (PSC) will be eligible for Georgia Level 4 certification. Teachers with certification in his area are infield to teach students in grades P-12 with disabilities who receive instruction using the general education curriculum and participate in the general statewide assessment, as well as students in special education preschool (ages 3-5 years). -

M.Ed. in Special Education-General Curriculum track
Candidates who successfully complete this program and other requirements of the state certification agency (PSC) will be eligible for Georgia Level 5 certification. Teachers with certification in his area are infield to teach students in grades P-12 with disabilities who receive instruction using the general education curriculum and participate in the general statewide assessment, as well as students in special education preschool (ages 3-5 years). - Due to changes in our MEd program in Special Education – General Curriculum we will no longer be offering an initial certification track in our MEd program. Initial certification students already admitted into the program will be allowed the standard 7-year period for completion of their program. However, no new initial certification students can be admitted. We will continue to admit students who have a Georgia clear, renewable, professional teaching certificate into the MEd program in Special Education-General Curriculum. We are developing an MAT program to meet the needs of students who need initial certification in special education.

Ed.S. in Special Education
Candidates who successfully complete this program and other requirements of the state certification agency (PSC) will be eligible for Georgia Level 6 certification.
Admissions
M.Ed. Program:
- 2.7 GPA
- Official Transcripts
- T4 with certification in SPED
Ed.S. Program:
- M.Ed. in SPED or related field
- 3.0 GPA
- SPED certification
