M.Ed. in Professional Counseling (School Counseling)
The School Counseling program is CACREP accredited and preparatory for certification (S-5) in elementary, middle, and secondary school counseling. Completion of the M.Ed. in School Counseling meets one of the requirements for professional certification as a school counselor (S- 5) in Georgia. A passing score on the GACE Basic Skills Assessment, GACE Content Assessment, and a recommendation from the University of West Georgia also are required. The School Counseling program also meets the educational requirements for licensure as a professional counselor (LPC) in Georgia and national counselor certification (NCC).
The mission of the School Counseling program is to educate Professional School Counselors. Through leadership, advocacy, collaboration, use of data, and action, our graduates will be competent at identifying and removing barriers that impede equal access to educational and career opportunities for all students. We are committed to educating Professional School Counselors skilled in needs assessment who are effective counselors and advocates for providing equal resources and support for all students. We believe in and are dedicated to high academic achievement, career success, and personal/social development of all students.
