Edward Crawford Collection

Scope and Content

The Edward W. Crawford Collection is a collection of items donated to The Center for Public History by Ann McCleary on February 12, 2001. The items include 5 diaries (4of which were written by Edward Crawford), various membership cards, Coast Guard papers, and other miscellaneous papers and photographs.

Box and Folder Listing:

  • Brown diary with leather cover, 5 ½” x 4”; January 1960-December 1964; broken lock and missing spine; Edward W. Crawford embossed on front.
  • Dark red diary with leather cover; 5 ¾ “x 4 ¼ “; October 1950-December 1954; lock attached but not working; torn spine; belonged to Edward Crawford.
  • Red diary with leather cover; 6 ½ “x 4 ¾ “; mold on cover and spine deterioration; died glue on back and spine; diary is locked.
  • Blue-green diary; 5 ½ “x 4”; January 1940-November 1944; no lock; spine torn and falling off; water stain on cover; belonged to a woman (no name given).
  • U.S. Coast Guard Satisfactory Service Card; Edward Crawford; dates of duty listed on back: 5-27-40 through 5-26-47; included fingerprint.
  • The American Legion Official Membership Card; Edward Crawford; 1951.
  • Coast Guard Welfare membership card; Edward Crawford; 1952.
  • Regular Veterans Association Life Membership Card; Edward Crawford; embossed seal in center.
  • Certification of Service card; United States Coast Guard; Edward Walker Crawford; active duty October 10, 1950 through November 8, 1951.
  • U.S. Navy Immunization Record card; E.W. Crawford.
  • Dental appointment card; E.W. Crawford.
  • Three passes to leave and re-board ship; Edward W. Crawford.
  • Scrap of paper with paragraph titled “The St. Johns River.”
  • Card folded from 8 ½ “x 11” paper; cover: NMQ Coast Guard District 11; inside: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, 11th Coast Guard District Communications; includes list of staff members.
  • Commencement invitation; Hawkinsville High School; Class of 1980.
  • Pacific Northwest Airlines passenger’s receipt; flight from Kodiak, Alaska to Seattle-Tacoma; October 4, 1960; cost $83.70; Edward W. Crawford.
  • “My Graduation Day” pamphlet; Edward Walker Crawford, Carrollton High School; includes list of Who’s Who of class; signatures of classmates; May 29-30, 1938.
  • Department of Defense, Certificate of Merit; Armed Forces Day 1972; Edward W. Crawford.
  • Diploma: Speed Control Seminar; November 22, 1965; Edward Crawford.
  • Honorable Discharge from the Civilian Conservation Corps; Edward Walker Crawford; discharged May 26, 1940; served July 7, 1938-May 26, 1940; also included physical description and job description.
