Officers for the Young Alumni Council are elected to one-year terms form a slate presented by the nominating committee and/or candidates that may be nominated from the floor at the annual meeting.

Wes is currently a student at UWG, working on his Masters of Education in Guidance and Counseling with a focus in Community Counseling and will graduate in Fall of 2014. He is an Academic Advisor for the Computational Media Program at Georgia Tech. He previously worked as an Academic Advisor at Georgia State University as well as the University of West Georgia. Wes regularly volunteers at Buckhead Church through helping with guest services as well as various community events throughout the year. He has also volunteered at the HOPE House in Carrollton, an organization that helps homeless men in the Carrollton area. In his free time he enjoys running and has participated in various races including his first half marathon this past November. Wes is an active Alumnus and is looking foward to what is in store for the future of UWG.

A native of Carrollton, Georgia. I attended Central High School and then the University of West Georgia. At UWG I was active in my sorority, Delta Delta Delta, and the Student Activities Council. After graduating from UWG I opened a vintage and home decor store, The Nest. I am currently a board member of Main Street and enjoy serving my community as well as my alma mater. My husband, Billy & I live in downtown Carrollton with our dog, Luci, and enjoy hiking, gardening, and cooking in our spare time.

Joel graduated from UWG in 2007 with a degree in Finance. He works as a financial advisor at Grillo & Associates in Carrollton. His wife, Allison, is also a 2007 graduate of UWG and is a teacher at Carrollton Elementary School.

Emily Jones is a second year special education teacher who has dedicated her life to service. She reaches out for volunteer opportunities in the special education world. She also volunteers in her free time with the Young Alumni Council for the University of West Georgia. As a young alumni, she enjoys networking with others at events and meeting new people to spread her love of West Georgia. She met her husband, Jonathan Jones, Class of 2008 while studying for her undergraduate degree. Jonathan is currently employed as a dental milling associate in LaGrange, Georgia.

I am a 2001 and 2006 graduate from UWG with degrees in Middle Grades Education and Educational Counseling & Psychology. I teach 6th grade at Bay Springs Middle School, where I also serve on the school’s leadership team, cross country coach, and Ultimate Bobcat Challenge Coordinator. For the past nine years I have been blessed to serve as Alpha Xi Delta’s advisor at UWG. In my spare time I run with Team in Training, which raises money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I am currently finishing a doctorate degree from the University of Alabama with a focus on Instructional Leadership.
