B.  Where do I start for Admissions?

B1. New Freshman Student:  I am or will soon be a High School graduate and I’ve never attended college. Where do I begin?

In order to take eCore courses at UWG, you must first apply for admission. Please visit the UWG Admissions website for more information:  http://www.westga.edu/admissions/

The registration process is the same as any other UWG course BUT the eCore Academic Calendar may be different.

TOP

B2. New Non-Traditional Student:  I haven’t been in school for years and I have never attended UWG. Where do I start?

In order to take eCore courses at UWG, you must first apply for admission. Please visit the UWG Admissions website for more information:  http://www.westga.edu/admissions/

You will first need to be admitted to UWG, and you may be classified as a non-traditional or as a transfer  student.  A non-traditional student typically has been out of school for more than 5 years and may not have attended college or has attended college but earned no more than 30 semester hours of transferable college credit.  A transfer student typically has taken some college coursework within the past 5 years.

All nontraditional students will need to take the COMPASS exam (Computer-adaptive college placement test) as part of the admission process, and you will be directed on which parts of the COMPASS exam are needed.

The UWG Admissions website will have more information concerning the applicate process, deadline dates, and required supplemental documents.  You may also contact UWG Admissions at 678-839-5600 for more information.  Be sure to pay attention to the admission deadline dates.

B3. Transfer Student:  I will be transferring credit hours from another institution?  How far back in time can coursework be transferred?

UWG has a Transfer Course Equivalency Guide, which is available under the Transfer Admissions Guide:
www.westga.edu/admiss/index_1060.php  (top right).   Be sure to have a copy of your other college transcript and follow the instructions.  It is possible your institution or a particular course is not listed, and you can contact the UWG Registrar for clarification.  While the Transfer Course Equivalency Guide is helpful, you will receive official notification on acceptance of coursework as part of the admissions process, and you can contact the UWG Registrar for follow-up.  Be sure to include your full name and student ID (917) number in your email.

UWG does not have an expiration date on undergraduate courses. Your transcripts will be evaluated by the Registrar’s office and the courses you’ve taken will be assigned credit where acceptable. Keep in mind that a course may transfer for credit but may not meet a current degree requirement.

Please contact the UWG Registrar’s Office at 678-839-6438 for assistance.  You may also email the Registrar at registrar@westga.edu.

B4. Transient Student:  How do I transient admit to UWG from my home institution, in order to take an eCore course?

Please visit the UWG Admissions website for more information:  http://www.westga.edu/admissions/.  If you are enrolled at another college or university and you wish to take eCore courses at UWG, you must apply for admission as a Transient Student. A Transient student is a student who wishes to only "visit" UWG for a semester.  You will need to obtain a Transient Letter of Good Standing from your home institution.  At the end of the semester, you can make a UWG transcript request to send a copy to your home institution, so that your eCore grade can be applied to your home institution’s transcript.  You may contact the UWG Admissions Office for more information:  678-839-5600.

B5. Joint/Dual Enrollment Student:  Can a high school student enroll to UWG in order to take eCore courses for college credit?

A high school junior or senior can attend UWG on-campus or distance (online) courses as a joint-enrolled student through the HOPE ACCEL Program. The eCore program is a particularly good opportunity to gain college credit while in high school for those who are unable to regularly travel to a college campus.  Please visit the UWG Admissions website for more information:  http://www.westga.edu/admissions/.  You may contact the UWG Admissions Office for more information:  678-839-5600.

TOP

B6. Prior UWG Student:  It has been over a year since attending UWG.  How do I readmit to take eCore classes?

If it has been more than one calendar year since you registered for or attended classes, you will need to apply for readmission to UWG. Please visit the UWG Admissions website for more information:  http://www.westga.edu/admissions/.  You may contact the UWG Admissions Office for more information:  678-839-5600.  Be sure to pay attention to the admission deadline dates.

C2. How many total credits can I get from eCore?

A typical core schedule includes between 41-43 credit hours worth of courses, which will be dependent on the science or non-science major option.  You would need to review the list of eCore course options and compare to your major’s program sheet requirements to determine how many credits you can personally achieve online.

C3. Can I earn an Associates Degree by taking eCore courses?

The eCore program is Georgia’s Core Curriculum Online. The core curriculum includes the general studies courses that are part of any degree program in the University System of Georgia. See the USG website for more information: http://www.usg.edu/
