STRATEGIES FOR PROMOTING A POSITIVE INCLUSIVE CLASSROOM
Dr. Michael Berg
Inclusion is now the "model of choice" on the continuum of services for children with mild disabilities. General education teachers are being held responsible for implementing accommodations prescribed in Individual Education Plans now more than ever. It is imperative that these teachers are equipped with effective strategies that promote collaboration, differentiation, and IEP compliance. In this discussion/presentation, conducted by Dr. Michael Berg, a 23 year veteran public school teacher and Georgia Regents University Instructor, present and future general education teachers will learn about practical strategies they can implement in their classrooms that will promote positive collaboration with special education teachers, paraprofessionals, and parents. In addition, research based tips on successfully differentiating instruction without watering down the curriculum for children with special needs will be shared. Finally, strategies for ensuring instructional and testing accommodations are being prescribed and implemented with fidelity will be discussed.
