Recommended Texts
ENGL 1101 (Composition I) focuses on text-based writing: students should be reading various sorts of texts and learning to develop and defend appropriate arguments in response to these texts. The sorts of writing produced in this class should help students develop skills appropriate to the many disciplines that require a thoughtful analysis of and written response to different texts.
Required Texts:
Students must have the department's required handbook, A Writer's Resource.
There will also be a shared text assigned to all sections of 1101 (the 2010-11 shared text is Julia Alvarez’s Something to Declare), which each instructor is free to incorporate into the course in ways most conducive to specific course content or themes.
Choice of additional texts (other than the handbook and shared text) are left to the instructor's discretion.
Please see Brandy Robinson if you have questions concerning appropriate text selection.
