North American
Description
Do you want to learn more about the North American mosaic? This Learning Community is designed for students who are curious about the United States’ relationship to its nearest neighbors. How do different cultural groups, economic developments or environmental conditions influence our relationship to one another? What are the diverse myths, stories and values that shape the different cultures that make up North America? Participants in the Community will gain a broader awareness of their relationship to the wider world and explore how American culture fits into that global picture. Students in the Learning Community will take courses together and participate in social and cultural events related to the Learning Community topic.
To extend students’ awareness of North America as an interconnected continent, members of the Learning Community will have the opportunity to participate in the Summer Study in Canada Program, a five week program in summer 2012 that will take students to Ottawa, Canada’s capital city, to continue their core studies.
For which students?
This Learning Community is for students with a wide variety of academic interests: politics, art, business, literature, geography, education, history all have something to contribute to the discussion.
