Specialist in Education with a Major in Early Childhood Education

Our Educational Specialist (Ed. S.) degree program is designed to prepare teacher leaders who are instrumental in the creation and implementation of instructional policies and practices that ensure that all students can and do learn. Program coursework and field experiences expand and deepen graduates’ theoretical and pedagogical knowledge and enable graduates to understand and apply innovative, emerging research on developments in Early Childhood Education.

Specialist in Education with a Major in Media (Instructional Technology)
18 months | Credit Hours: 27
The purpose of the Ed.S. program in Instructional Technology is to provide superior student-focused education that is personally relevant and intellectually challenging. The program is committed to the following areas of excellence:
- Preparing progressive, innovative, academically grounded instructional technology leaders;
- Enabling teachers and school library media specialists to successfully integrate technology into their learning environments to support student learning;
- Building and enhancing skills in research and program evaluation to support instructional growth and improvement;
- Pioneering innovative delivery options to maximize educational experiences;
- Cultivating diversity of ideas, values, and persons responsive to changing needs and technologies; and
- Promoting the advancement of learning through scholarship and service.
Specialist in Education with a Major in Media (School Library Media)
The purpose of the Ed.S. program in School Library Media is to provide superior student-focused education that is personally relevant and intellectually challenging. The program is committed to the following areas of excellence:
- Preparing progressive, innovative, academically grounded school library specialists;
- Enabling school library media specialists to successfully develop, administer, and evaluate effective school library media programs;
- Building and enhancing skills in research and program evaluation to support instructional growth and improvement;
- Pioneering innovative delivery options to maximize educational experiences;
- Collaborating with all stakeholders to enhance student achievement;
- Cultivating diversity of ideas, values, and persons responsive to changing needs and technologies; and
- Promoting the advancement of learning through scholarship and service.
Specialist in Education with a Major in Professional Counseling
The Education Specialist Degree (Ed.S.) is designed for graduate students with a master's degree in counseling who desire further specialization as professional counselors and a higher level of competence in their work settings. The degree consists of 27 semester hours after completion of the master's degree.
Specialist in Education with a Major in Special Education

The Department of Clinical and Professional Studies in the College of Education at the University of West Georgia (COE-UWG) offers the Education Specialist program in Special Education (EdS-SPED). The EdS-SPED degree prepares candidates to refine their professional knowledge, skills and dispositions for improving practice through the application of research constructs and the communication of new knowledge. Individuals with a variety of backgrounds and interests in special education can benefit from this program since it is not restricted to a single group or certification area within the field of special education. Candidates who successfully complete this program and other requirements of the state certification agency (PSC) will be eligible for Georgia Level 6 certification.
