With expert preparation in a variety of special education disciplines, students go on to do essential and rewarding work in learning disabilities and emotional and behavioral disorders, as well as speech pathology for schools, hospitals and clinics.

  • The Department's mission is to prepare professional educators who understand and appropriately use specific critical information and who can demonstrate skills and competencies needed for work with diverse groups of children with special needs.
  • The Special Education programs prepare teachers to work with pupils pre-K-grade 12 with behavior disorders, learning disabilities, mental retardation, severe and profound disabilities, and in general education classrooms.
  • Graduate programs guide teachers in the acquisition of advanced skills including those related to informed, reflective and ethical decision making.
