“ ... I could learn the fundamentals in the class, and then come over to the studio and get the hands-on training and experience I longed for,” Robinson said.

It’s lights, camera, action for one University of West Georgia alumna.

Leah Robinson, a part-time production assistant at WSB-TV in Atlanta, says she credits UWG and its educational channel UTV 13 for playing a large part in her career preparation and providing a solid foundation for a wide range of media roles from video editing to anchoring to reporting.

“UTV was so great because I could learn the fundamentals in the class, and then come over to the studio and get the hands-on training and experience I longed for,” Robinson said. “I practically lived in the studio!”

In addition to volunteering with UTV, she also worked with the West Georgian as a reporter and editor, and interned at WSB.

Leah Robinson“Running the teleprompter and robotic cameras, helping with production striking, interviewing … I’ve worn many hats,” she said.

This statement carries into her current life.

“I am also publishing a local edition of Critter Magazine, a publication that showcases some of the animals in local shelters,” she continued. “I want to make a difference in the lives of animals, including educating humans about animal issues and finding homes for animals. Those are the primary reasons Critter exists.

“From print to broadcast media, I’m getting paid for what I love to do,” Robinson concluded. “Thank you, West Georgia.”
