Observatory Open for Lunar Eclipse

See the eclipse at the Observatory.A total lunar eclipse will occur on Tuesday, August 28, and will be observable at the West Georgia Observatory, which will open for the occasion at 4:45 a.m. and remain open until sunrise.

The lunar eclipse will begin at 3:53 a.m. but will only become noticeable to onlookers at 4:51 a.m. when the moon enters the darker part of the Earth’s shadow. The eclipse will become total at 5:52 a.m. and can be observed with binoculars and the unaided eye. An animation of this eclipse may be viewed at www.shadowandsubstance.com.

The observatory is located on the University of West Georgia campus on Plant Op Drive, which can be accessed by the West Entrance.
