UWG Celebrates Constitution Day
The University of West Georgia, the Ingram Library and academic departments throughout the campus will observe Constitution Day on Monday, Sept. 17, and Tuesday, Sept. 18.
At the library, West Georgia Theatre Group students will perform readings of the Constitution on the library steps, and Dr. Thomas Hunter, assistant professor of political science and planning, will lecture on “Creating a Constitution” at 11:15 a.m. in the library lobby.
A film presentation of “The Making of the Constitution” will be shown at 10:00 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the lobby with milk and cookies. Participants will also be given personal copies of the Constitution.
Constitution Day commemorates the day the document was signed on Sept. 17, 1787, and the 39 delegates who changed the course of history.
A federal law passed in 2004 requires all educational institutions that receive federal funds to observe Constitution Day. For more information, call 678-839-6350. To view a complete schedule of events, visit http://www.westga.edu/~library/depts/news/announcements.shtml.
