Newt Gingrich presents Solutions Day at UWG

Wednesday, September 26, 2007

Gingrich, who was a professor of history at the university before entering politics, will share the podium with Dr. Stanley Caress, professor of political science, in the Bonner Lecture Hall on Friday morning at 11 a.m.  Gingrich will address two political science classes.

He’ll continue his visit on campus in the afternoon with a UTV13 studio interview and a Meet and Greet for faculty, staff and students in the College of Education Atrium from 1:15 to 2 p.m.

After speaking at Bonner Lecture Hall, Gingrich will have lunch and be a guest speaker at the Carrollton Kiwanis International Club at noon. He’ll continue his visit in Carrollton from 2 to 3 p.m. at Horton’s Books and Gifts, LLC., to sign his latest book, “Pearl Harbor, Rediscovering God in America.” Horton’s is the oldest bookstore in Georgia and located on Adamson Square.

Gingrich will continue his visit on Saturday as host and founder of American Solutions for Winning the Future, a non-partisan government organization. He will present the Solutions Day event from 1 - 5:30 p.m. in the College of Education building.

Solutions Day is designed to provide discourse and solutions for some of the issues facing our country today through concurrent workshops. The program is not a university-sponsored event, but the community is invited to attend the free workshop sessions.

“It is clear America is faced with enormous challenges both at home and abroad,” said Gingrich. “It is equally clear that the current political-governmental system is stuck in pathology of negative ads, short attention spans, gridlocked partisanship and lack of effective solutions that work and can be implemented. This is a big not a small problem. Solving it will require a big not a small solution.”

The UWG campus will host workshops that will be broadcast throughout the country. Gingrich will begin the event at UWG with opening remarks and close the event with a statement.
