UWG Stories
Audrey Baird
“I get just as excited about the students’ success as they do,” said Baird. “Sometimes we hug and even dance in my office when the right employment opportunity is found.”
At the University of West Georgia, one woman is changing the lives of students everyday. With enthusiasm and determination she strives to locate and secure employment opportunities for students who need them. As assistant director of Career Services at UWG, Audrey Baird is an irreplaceable component of the university.
Recently nominated by the university for the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce Spirit Award, Baird’s consistent, unwavering commitment to the faculty, staff and students of UWG is being highlighted. Her attitude toward her job is one of optimism.
“I get just as excited about the students’ success as they do,” said Baird. “Sometimes we hug and even dance in my office when the right employment opportunity is found.”
Baird has been with the university since Sept. 1988. She started out as a part-time coordinator of the Student Employment Referral System, but her passion toward UWG and the success of students led to the position evolving into full time. In 1999 she obtained her current title as assistant director of Career Services.
“A perfect day is when a student reports that they found a job either on or off campus,” said Baird.
Baird also manages the Student Research Assistant Program, which is coordinated with academic departments across campus providing paid research opportunities for students. The program has received outstanding recognition for the research efforts and the retention of highly motivated students.
“The program strengthens relationships between students, faculty and staff,” said Baird. “It enhances learning through meaningful employment.”
Baird’s dedication to UWG through her ambitious employment objectives for students and general enthusiasm is seen as an inspiration to those around her and an exceptional asset to the university.
“I have found where I belong and where my spirit lies,” concluded Baird.
