Campus Planning and Facilities Receives Award
UWG Campus Planning and Facilities received recognition with the prestigious 2007 Regents Award for Excellence for the Love Valley/Student Center Project completed last year. The new campus architecture takes UWG’s natural beauty up another notch said members of the Board of Regents and the University System of Georgia.
“The new campus architecture enhances West Georgia’s precious natural beauty and stands as inspiration for the future architectural design solutions of the campus,” said Linda Daniels, vice chancellor for Facilities in the USG. “The nature and use of public green space continues to be a defining element in our lives.”
The century-old campus is noted for its heavily wooded landscape and for Love Valley, a two-acre green space that has been a popular historical feature of the university, and is still used for student gatherings, concerts and other events.
Located adjacent to the recently completed 131,000 square foot Campus Center, the pairing of a vibrant student center and the rolling hills of Love Valley is an unbeatable combination, said Mike Renfrow.
The Campus Center opened in 2006 and features glass walls and doors that overlook the fields of Love Valley. Located in the heart of the UWG campus, the center is close to academic buildings, athletic facilities and the new Health and Wellness Center now under construction.
Inside the Campus Center, UWG students have access to a gymnasium, a fitness center, ballroom, rock climbing wall and other facilities that enhance student life on campus. Together, the modern upscale architecture and the green space of Love Valley give students a comfortable setting that invites a vibrant student life on campus.
