UWG Stories
University Stadium
“This is a dream come true for this university and this football program,” said Dickey.
The University of West Georgia’s football program has been one of the most popular athletic teams within the university for many years. Within all of the excitement that the football program provides, the UWG Wolves have sadly been without a permanent home of their own. Now, in 2009, the Wolves have finally found a place to call their own in the University Stadium.
University Stadium, UWG’s new athletic complex, offers more than a place for football games to be played. New facilities include a stadium and practice field for the Wolves’ soccer program, a new softball stadium and a women’s field house with locker room facilities for both women’s sports.
Daryl Dickey, head coach and interim athletics director, said this stadium would serve the university well now and in the future.
“This is a dream come true for this university and this football program,” said Dickey. “This entire complex is the culmination of years of hard work and effort on the part of many, and it should be a tremendous asset to our entire university.”
As this new era in Wolves football ushers in, the word “new” can be applied to more than the new facilities. In the 2009 season, there will be a large number on new faces on this year’s roster.
“We’ll be a completely different team than we were last year,” said Dickey. “Not only players will be different, but the perception will be too. The way we look the way we act on the field and the amount of confidence we bring to the games is something we’ve focused on a lot during the off-season.”
