Callaway Addition
The addition has more than doubled the size of the present building, allowing it to house both the geography and geology programs.
The University of West Georgia prides itself on providing state-of-the-art facilities that students and faculty can utilize to further pursue their academic passions. For the Department of Geosciences, the Callaway Building Addition has given their program and the students therein the opportunity to expand their horizons and delve deeper into the world of geology and geography.
In May 2006, the Georgia General Assembly allocated $4.9 million dollars for the construction of an addition to the Callaway Building. The addition has more than doubled the size of the present building, allowing it to house both the geography and geology programs.
Within the facility, there is office, instructional and research space for faculty, staff and student to use. Specifically, the instructional space includes a sedimentology lab, rock preparation lab, physical geography research lab, climatology research lab, geospatial technologies research lab, Center for Water Resources, water quality lab and other laboratories.
The addition to the Callaway Building is more than just an expansion; it also serves as a major renovation that has upgraded the existing classrooms, labs and offices to align with up-to-date 21st century standards for teaching and learning.
The Department of Geosciences at UWG is well known for its wonderful world-class educators who instill knowledge and assist students with their specific studies. With this expansion, this department and its students finally have a well-deserved, world-class facility in which to teach and learn.
