UWG Faculty and Staff Break A DAY Record

Wednesday, September 20, 2006

Faculty and staff at the University of West Georgia broke a record this week when they surpassed the $100,000 mark in their 2006 A DAY for West Georgia contributions.

This year’s A DAY faculty and staff campaign is chaired by Audrey Baird, assistant director of Career Services, and co-chaired by Dr. Jon Anderson, assistant professor of management and associate dean of the Richards College of Business.

It has been an honor to be A DAY chair for the faculty and staff,” said Baird. “All I can say is a big ‘wow’ because funding will help so many. It is wonderful to be a part of the UWG team.”

The campaign on campus began with a faculty and staff A DAY Captains Luncheon and continued with an ice cream social in August and a barbeque lunch under the ancient oak trees on the front lawn. AirTran Airways sponsored the events and donors of $100 or more had an opportunity to win airline tickets provided by AirTran.  Winners of the AirTran tickets were Dr. Sandra Stone, vice president for Academic Affairs, and Dr. Kerry Sebera, assistant professor of counseling.

Anderson said the donations show the high esteem in which faculty and staff hold the university and the students.

“This gift to the university and students is a demonstration of the generosity of faculty and staff at UWG,” said Anderson. “These dollars will pay dividends in students lives for years to come.”

Last year’s total for the faculty and staff A DAY contributions was $88,193.97. Baird and Anderson said they expect this year’s faculty and staff contributions to increase by 20 percent.

Another opportunity to contribute to the A DAY campaign is participation in the West Georgia National Bank Run for A DAY on Oct. 5.  It is a rain or shine event.

Preregistration is available until Sept. 30 online at www.westga.edu/~alumni/ADay_run_flyer_appl.pdf and costs $10 for individuals; $15 for families and $5 for UWG students. After Sept. 30, registration is an additional $5 for individuals and families and an additional $2 for UWG students. This event is the sixth year that WGNB has sponsored the A DAY run.
