Rocky Lipham is 2006 A DAY Chair
As the president of West Georgia National Bank, Carrollton businessman H.B. “Rocky” Lipham spends his day overseeing a smooth operation of the bank. He spends his volunteer hours investing in the lives of current and future University of West Georgia students as chair of the 2006 A DAY for West Georgia campaign.
Lipham has contributed much of his time and efforts toward A DAY for West Georgia having been involved in the campaign since 1989. His involvement in A DAY began when he was still at student at UWG. He has served on the steering committee in past years and chaired the Villa Rica drive in the mid 90’s. Lipham also co-chaired the A DAY campaign last year.
Lipham said it is important to support UWG because the university has a huge economic impact on the community.
“I believe it is every civic leader’s responsibility in our community to support the University of West Georgia, and to help build an educated society,” said Lipham. “Investing in the lives of University of West Georgia students will, in turn, be an investement in our community.”
Lipham’s responsibilities as A DAY chair include participating in speaking engagements and overseeing the progress of the campaign. Lipham’s first priority is gaining as much volunteer participation as possible.
Lipham has many ties with UWG. As well as meeting his wife on the university campus, he was active in the Baptist Student Union and became the BSU president in 1989. Lipham graduated from UWG with a degree in accounting. He also supports the athletic program, and still enjoys attending basketball games every chance he gets.
As an alum, Lipham continues his investment in education. While attending UWG, Lipham took notice of students in need of scholarships, but during that time the need to fund scholarships was not widely known. Lipham said he was pleased the A DAY campaign was created to not only increase awareness of the need for scholarships, but to also bring awareness of the many changes UWG has experienced in recent years.
“I am excited about the growth of our university in several areas. We have strong results in academic achievement and student research programs, and as a community we also have a stronger quality of life because of the excellent cultural and athletic programs,” said Lipham.
The A DAY campaign is a collaboration of events that helps to raise funds for student scholarships, faculty and staff development programs and undergraduate research. The campaign contributes positively to the university as well as Carrollton, West Georgia, and the state of Georgia as a whole.
