Hynes Named Interim President at Clayton State (1/29/2009)

University System of Georgia Chief Academic Officer Susan Herbst announced that Dr. Thomas J. (Tim) Hynes Jr., provost and vice president for academic affairs at the University of West Georgia (UWG) in Carrollton, has been appointed to serve as interim president of Clayton State University, effective June 1, 2009.

Gallery Features Appalachian Artists (1/26/2009)

The University of West Georgia and the Department of Art are hosting a Gallery talk and closing reception for the “Natural Distortion: A View of Cultural Landscapes” show on Friday, Jan. 30, 11:30 a.m. in the Humanities Building. UWG Named to Peace Corps' Top Ten (1/23/2009)

The University of West Georgia has been named as one of the Peace Corps’ Top 10 colleges in Georgia that contribute to the number of Peace Corps volunteers. With 38 UWG alumni listed as volunteers in the Peace Corps, the university is ranked 10th out of 76 Georgia colleges and universities who have produced volunteers since the Peace Corps’ inception in 1961. Two UWG alumni are currently serving overseas.

Dickey to Serve as Interim Athletics Director (1/20/2009)

Daryl Dickey, head coach for the University of West Georgia’s Wolves football program, will serve as interim athletics director effective Feb. 1.  He steps in to expand his leadership role following the retirement of Ed Murphy who served in that capacity for almost 15 years.

Chicago Jazz Ensemble Comes to TCPA (1/15/2009)

“Live Art at the Townsend Center,” which started in 2008, was a successful venture into increasing artistic opportunities for UWG and the Carrollton community. Michelle Morgan, Susan Fleck and Claire Cooley, co-chairs of the upcoming Live Art event, said the gala once again brings critically acclaimed artists to the area.
