"The Black-Jew Dialogues" Visits West Georgia (1/31/2013)

Students and community members alike are invited to kick off Black History Month a day early with a free performance of “The Black-Jew Dialogues.” This hilarious two-actor show includes sketches, improvisations, puppets and more. The event begins at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 31, in the Campus Center Ballroom 108.2,3 and 4.

International Students Prepare for Big Turnout at International Night (1/28/2013)

The University of West Georgia International Student Club will celebrate International Night on Thursday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m. in the Food Services Building (Z-6). The 28th annual International Night will carry the theme “Citizens of the World” and is a result of several months of planning and organizing by student members. The annual event allows the public to sample food from more than 30 countries as well as enjoy various cultural presentations by international students.

Controversies of Culture Series Continues with LGBTQ Seminar (1/28/2013)

The Center for Diversity and Inclusion welcomes Dr. Joshua Moon Johnson to its January “Controversies of Culture” discussion. The topic of this discussion is understanding and respecting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer identities. This series is part of the University of West Georgia’s commitment to promoting knowledge and mutual respect among students. It will be held on the first floor of Ingram Library on Jan. 29 at 7 p.m.

Sethna Honored with Thomas S. Upchurch Workforce Education Award (1/24/2013)

UWG President Beheruz N. Sethna received the Thomas S. Upchurch Workforce Education Award at the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce's annual banquet. This marks only the second time the Carroll Chamber Workforce Education Committee has given the award.

UWG Hosts National Art and Music Exhibit (1/24/2013)

The University of West Georgia is bringing new meaning to the art of music. Ingram Library is hosting an exhibition showcasing the 2012 Paul Revere Award winners, a group chosen as outstanding examples of graphic design in the music industry. The library will display the exhibit Feb. 4 – 23, 2013, in the Thomas B. Murphy Reading Room on the ground floor.

UWG Cheerleaders Win National Championship (1/23/2013)

The University of West Georgia has become synonymous with excellence in the world of cheerleading. The UWG all-female cheerleading squad successfully defended their Universal Cheerleaders Association National Championship at the 2013 competition on Saturday, Jan. 19, claiming their third-straight championship and sixth title since 2005.

Chris Davidovicz Named Head Women’s Soccer Coach at UWG (1/23/2013)

Daryl Dickey, the University of West Georgia Director of Athletics, officially named Chris Davidovicz as the new head coach of the UWG women’s soccer program. Davidovicz is the third head coach in the nine-year history of the program.

Board of Regents Approves Real Property Acquisition for UWG-Newnan (1/14/2013)

The University of West Georgia is going West — three miles west — to downtown Newnan. On Tuesday, Jan. 8, the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia voted to approve the acquisition of the real property at 80 W. Jackson St., the site of the historic Newnan Hospital facility. The decision is the result of nearly two years of planning by key stakeholders at the Board of Regents, UWG, the City of Newnan, Coweta County and Newnan Hospital, Inc., all of whom are committed to strengthening the area’s workforce through improved access to education for both traditional and non-traditional students in the Newnan area.

Rivals will hit the court at The Coliseum on the campus of the University of West Georgia this Thursday evening, Jan. 10, as UWG Athletics presents Paint it Blue 2013 with the Valdosta State Blazers in town for a doubleheader. The first game begins at 5:30 p.m.

UWG Students Earn High Praise at International Economic Convention (1/7/2013)

This December, the University of West Georgia placed third among nine institutions that competed at the 20th International Economics Convention in Mumbai, India. The team paper took third place, and team member Borja Arino was awarded second place as “Best Presenter” of the convention.

UWG’s Heaberlin Receives National Distinguished Educator Award (1/2/2013)

Dr. Robert Heaberlin was recently awarded the 2012 Association for Middle Level Education (AMLE) Distinguished Educator Award. Heaberlin, presented the award at the 39th Annual Conference for Middle Level Education in Portland, Ore., is only the second educator from Georgia to receive this honor.
