Campus Closes for Holiday Break (12/18/2009)

The University of West Georgia will close its campus for the holiday break on Friday,  December 18, at 5 p.m. and will reopen on Monday, January 4, at 8 a.m. The UWG faculty and staff wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season. See you in 2010!

Congratulations to UWG Grads (12/14/2009)

Fall commencement was held in The Coliseum on Saturday to a standing-room-only crowd.  Approximately 640 undergraduate and graduate students received their diplomas with three students receiving a doctorate degree. 500 students walked across the stage to receive their diplomas.

West Georgia Awarded Safety Grant (12/11/2009)

The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety Collaborative Safety Initiatives awarded Health Services a $12,500 grant to fund its Georgia Young Adult programs. It is the sixth consecutive GOHS grant awarded to UWG.

University of West Georgia Athletics has begun the Wolves Basketball Full Court Press with Associate Athletic Director Eddie Duffey leading a series of promotional stops at local businesses in the Carrollton area.

The 21st holiday season of the Townsend Center for the Performing Arts will begin on Friday, December 11, with the annual Rudolph to the Rescue Toy Drive reception and International Juggling Champion and Comedian of the Year Mark Nizer.

UWG Alum Honored (12/7/2009)

UWG alum Bill Bolling ’76 has a wealth of experience when it comes to hunger in Georgia and was recently recognized for it this fall. Bolling is the 2009 recipient of the Shining Light Award for his community service as founder and director of the Atlanta Community Food Bank.

Neely Young, an award-winning columnist, editor, publisher and entrepreneur, will be the commencement speaker at the UWG fall graduation ceremony on Dec. 12, at 9:30 a.m. in the Coliseum.

A Vision for Preservation (12/4/2009)

The eyes might be the windows to the soul, but the cornea – made primarily of clear, dense, connective tissue – is the window of the eye. When that window gets damaged, vision can be impaired, and if the damage is severe enough, the only solution might be corneal replacement.
