For the second time in his life and 68 years after earning his first degree, A. Paul Cadenhead, 86, walked across the stage at UWG’s fall graduation ceremony Saturday, Dec. 8 where he received the honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree. This distinction has only been bestowed twelve previous times in UWG’s 106-year history.

The West Georgia Bankers Association (WGBA) recently showed its support of the Richards College of Business by creating a scholarship fund for UWG students majoring in finance. WGBA President, James Fulford (’01), presented a check for $4,603.61 to the University of West Georgia Foundation to assist deserving students in paying for college, through the West Georgia Bankers Association Scholarship.

UWG mourns the loss of Dr. Lewis H. Larson, Jr., professor emeritus of anthropology and Georgia's first state archaeologist, who died on Nov. 25. He was a recognized contributor to the archaeology of North America and recipient of the Governor's Award in the Humanities.

The University of West Georgia will hold its fall commencement ceremonies on Saturday, December 8 at 9:30 a.m. in the Coliseum on the Carrollton campus. It will be streamed online.
After 30 years of service, Sylvia Short is still most admired for her ability to make international students feel at home from the moment they join the UWG family. A recent retirement reception for Shortt brought together dozens of colleagues and international students to reminisce, offer best wishes, but most of all say thank you for her outstanding work with the International Services and Programs.

The public is invited to attend a townhall meeting regarding the search for a new president of the university. Dr. Don Rice, search committee chair, will conduct the meeting which is designed to introduce the committee members, explain the process and give an update on the search progress, answer questions and take suggestions regarding the characteristics one would like to see in a new university president.
