The University of West Georgia has won a coveted Best of Show honor in the 26th annual Educational Advertising Awards, a national competition sponsored by Higher Education Marketing Report.

The University of West Georgia recently established the Dr. Donald R. Wagner Endowed Scholarship to honor Wagner for his advocacy in education over the past 36 years at UWG. The scholarship will benefit UWG Advanced Academy students.

The University of West Georgia is proud to announce that it has been granted approval to offer its first Ph.D. program, which will bolster its doctoral-study offerings.

 UWG's Concert Choir and Chamber Singers present a Winter Choral Concert on February 17 at 8:15 p.m. at the Townsend Center for the Performing Arts. It is free and open to the public.

George Brooks, president of the central region for UPS in Aurora, Ill., and Dave Knight, senior vice president of J. Smith Lanier and Co. in Carrollton, have been appointed to three-year terms on the University of West Georgia Foundation Inc. Board of Trustees.

The SunTrust Foundation has awarded a $50,000 grant to the University System of Georgia Foundation to implement the “SunTrust Scholars” program at the University of West Georgia and nine other Metro Atlanta University System of Georgia institutions.

The Office of Institutional Diversity presents “The Black Cowboy,” featuring Michael N. Searles, on Feb. 16 at 6:30 p.m. in the Campus Center ballroom.

The EXCEL Center at the University of West Georgia will sponsor the annual ‘Day of HOPE,’ on Feb. 17, 2011. This is a day to celebrate HOPE scholars and all of the hard work they put into maintaining their scholarship. 

UWG and You, a series of regional alumni receptions and reunion events, has kicked off and offers West Georgia grads a fun and easy way to reconnect with their alma mater.

To promote breast cancer awareness, the UWG Wolves women's basketball team is suiting up and joining the fight for a cure at this Saturday's game against North Alabama, which tips off at 2 p.m.

The University of West Georgia has received a $25,000 gift to create an endowment for education students and to support the school from a long-time friend. 

Coming to the University of West Georgia’s Townsend Center for Performing arts are Russian folk traditions with two troupes, Golden Gates and Moscow Nights, on Feb. 12, 2011 at 7:30 p.m.

“The Gothic Dream: The Horror of Silence,” a multi-media production that dissects music, literature, cinema and fine arts to explore the varying themes in particular pieces of literature, comes to Kathy Cashen Recital Hall on February 10 at 8:15 p.m. Free.

The Department of Career Services will be hosting the annual Job Expo Tuesday, February 8 from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. in the Campus Center Ballroom. 

 International Night, UWG's celebration of campus-wide diversity and cultural entertainment, returns Thursday, Feb. 3, at 7 p.m. 

Recent bad weather has taken its toll on the Talladega Tornadoes baseball field. The season opener against the UWG Wolves has been changed to a home game. The teams will meet at Cole Field on Sunday, Feb. 6.

The University of West Georgia’s financial aid department is hosting College Goal Sunday on Feb. 20 to help students complete federal financial aid applications.
