UWG Artists Prepare for Print Big! 2011 (4/21/2011)

Art students from the University of West Georgia are taking part in Print Big! 2011 in Atlanta. The project, coordinated by the Atlanta Printmakers Studio, commemorates Arbor Day.

UWG joins a host of other participating schools. On April 30, at the Atlanta Printmakers Studio on Metropolitan Avenue, a steamroller will press the designs that were carved 4x8 foot woodblocks. Trees and environmental issues are themes of the designs.

Jazz great Chris Vadala to Perform at UWG's Sunbelt Jazz Festival (4/18/2011)

 

Jazz great Chris Vadala comes to UWG"s 26th Annual Sunbelt Jazz Festival Friday, April 22, at 7:30 p.m. On Thursday and Friday before the concert, Vadala will work with the University Jazz Ensemble and the Bowdon middle and high school jazz bands. He will perform Friday evening with the bands backing him up. UWG’s Department of Music and the Townsend Center for the Performing Arts host the annual show for lovers of great jazz.

Go West. Go Green. UWG Celebrates Earth Day 2011 (4/12/2011)

The University of West Georgia is pleased to mark Earth Day 2011 (Friday, April 22) with a series of events that are free and open to the public. The events are designed to get people involved in Going West and Going Green - cleaning and beautifying the land and river around UWG's scenic Carrollton campus. There are also fun things to do that capture the spirit of Earth Day.

Alumni Awards Celebration (4/7/2011)

On April 15, the UWG National Alumni Association will hold its Alumni Awards Celebration, recognizing distinguished alumni. Admission is $25, and the event will be held at 7 p.m. in the lower level of the Z-6 Food Service Building on campus. Dress is business casual. A reception will be held at Z6 at 6 p.m. to honor this year’s award recipients.

Reynolds Establish Nursing Scholarship (4/5/2011)

An endowed scholarship has been established at the University of West Georgia that will provide a helping hand to several students in the School of Nursing each year. Derek and Patricia Reynolds created the Reynolds Nursing Education Scholarship to celebrate a field that makes a substantial positive impact on society.

Journal Retrospective Available as Digital Collection (4/4/2011)

Ingram Library at the University of West Georgia has recently digitized and made available online the full run of two journal publications produced here over the past 50 years. Subsidized by a grant from the Sloan Foundation, in collaboration with the LYRASIS Mass Digitization Collaborative, the “West Georgia College Studies in the Social Sciences” and the “West Georgia College Review” are now available on the web.

Astronomy Night Stars Constellations, Demonstrations (4/4/2011)

Astronomy and physics demonstrations will be put to the test on Friday, April 29 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the University of West Georgia’s Crider Lecture Hall. Various faculty members and volunteers will demonstrate astronomical and physics phenomena, including sublimation, constellations, gravity, circular motion, temperature extremes, pressure and vacuum, magnetism, light and episodic catastrophism.
