Influenza Outbreak Update (5/30/2009)

Officials from the University of West Georgia remain in contact with state and local public health departments regarding the outbreak of the H1N1 influenza virus (commonly known as swine flu) and will notify the campus of any changes or recommendations coming from state agencies.

New Scholarship for English Majors (5/26/2009)

The University of West Georgia announces the creation of the Marion L. Fisher Award, established by Carrollton resident Douglass M. Fisher to honor and remember her husband, Marion L. Fisher, who died in January. The Fishers discussed the idea shortly before Marion’s death in order to support rising juniors and seniors majoring in English.

Clark Named Dean of Graduate School (5/13/2009)

Dr. Charles “Skip” Clark has been named the new dean to the Graduate School at the University of West Georgia. Clark has served as interim dean of the school since July 2006 and as chair of the Department of History for five years.

The University of West Georgia is privileged to announce the establishment of the Robert Ray and Bula Adams Claxton Memorial Scholarship. Dr. Robert H. Claxton, professor emeritus of history at UWG, created the scholarship to honor his parents, Robert Ray and Bula Adams Claxton.

Conference Inspires Success (5/8/2009)

The 2009 Atlanta Area Bibliographic Instruction Group or BIG Conference will be held at the University of West Georgia on Friday, May 29, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Campus Center Ballroom. The registration for “The Learning Commons:  New Frontiers in Instruction” is free with a deadline of Friday, May 22.

Spring Graduation to be Held Saturday (5/5/2009)

The University of West Georgia will conduct Spring Commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 9, in the UWG Coliseum on campus.  Undergraduates for the College of Arts and Sciences and the Richards College of Business will receive their degrees at the 9 a.m. ceremony.  Undergraduates for the College of Education and the School of Nursing, as well as all students receiving graduate degrees from the Graduate School, will march at the noon ceremony.
