UWG Police Receive GACP State Certification (5/23/2014)

The University of West Georgia Police Department has been awarded state certification under the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police State Certification Program. Chief of Police Tom Mackel received the certification award, which took over two years to complete, on March 20,2014, at the annual Police Awards Banquet held in the Campus Center Ballroom.

UWG Plants Community Garden (5/22/2014)

The University of West Georgia has partnered with Tanner Health System’s “Get Healthy, Live Well” initiative, a community transformation grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, to plant and maintain a community garden. UWG joins several other groups in the area who are also planting these gardens. Bowdon Elementary School, Fairfield Plantation, Heard County 4-H Club and Piney Grove Baptist Church are among approximately 11 groups taking part in the initiative.

Bowdon College Featured in Ingram Library Exhibit (5/22/2014)

The University of West Georgia’s Ingram Library and the Bowdon Area Historical Society are pleased to announce an exhibit highlighting the history of Bowdon College titled Bowdon College: The Athens of the West. The exhibit will be on display in the Ingram Library’s Thomas B. Murphy Reading Room until Aug. 4, 2014.

More than 1000 Students Gather at UWG for STEM Week (5/15/2014)

An estimated 1300 middle and high school students from Carroll, Cobb, Douglas and Paulding counties visited the University of West Georgia for the first ever UWG STEM Week. Students spent the entire day engaging in various chemistry and physics experiments and demonstrations. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

UWG Holds Leadership Development Institute (LDI) Retreat (5/12/2014)

The University of West Georgia held its first-ever Leadership Development Institute (LDI) retreat on May 8 & 9 at the university’s Campus Center. The day-and-a-half meeting brought together more than 200 supervisors, managers, department heads, directors, and executives from across the campus as part of UWG’s Engage West initiative, a series of programs designed to facilitate cross-divisional and departmental communication, leadership development and training, strong employee relations and maximum operational effectiveness – all with the goal of increasing student success and creating a best place to work, learn, and succeed.

Contribution Creates Professorship for Predictive Analytics and Econometrics (5/7/2014)

A recent contribution by University of West Georgia alumnus, David Johnson, will create the David A. Johnson Distinguished Scholar, establishing an endowed faculty position to direct the Predictive Analytics/Econometrics program in the Richards College of Business. The endowment will provide supplemental funding to an economics professor to lead the program to new heights.
