Congrats Summer Grads (7/29/2010)

 The University of West Georgia will host its summer commencement ceremonies on Saturday, July 31 at 9:30 a.m. The ceremony’s guest speaker will be Kenneth R. Bernard, who represents the 13th Congressional District on the Board of Regents, the governing body for the University System of Georgia.

UWG Inherits Field for River Study (7/23/2010)

Hugh Brock is concerned about the rate at which fish are dying in a section of the Tallapoosa River. He’s so concerned, in fact, that he wants a portion of the river running through land he has owned for many years to be studied to determine its ecological health.

Brock has donated 14 acres to the University of West Georgia to be used by the Geosciences Department as an outdoor classroom and laboratory.

Efforts in Haiti Focus on Sustainability (7/9/2010)

The catastrophic earthquake that struck Haiti on Jan. 12 called for a response from humanitarian and disaster relief organizations worldwide. In a country about the size of Maryland, over 200,000 people died, 2 million were left homeless and 3 million were in need of food and water. Much of the existing infrastructure including hospitals, schools and businesses lay in ruins. Lives were changed in an instant - homes, families and communities shattered without warning.

McCandless Named Transitional Dean, COAS (7/6/2010)

UWG Closed on Monday for Holiday (7/1/2010)

The University of West Georgia will be closed on Monday, July 5 in observance of the Independence Day holiday. Classes and normal business activities will resume on Tuesday, July 6.
