UWG Receives New Kawai Piano Fleet (8/28/2008)

A grand piano is made up of more than 9,000 precision parts of wood, metal and fiber, and when fitted together, creates a beautiful instrument. A Shigeru Kawai Grand uses Japanese Ezo Spruce grown in the mountains of Hokkaido, Japan. The extreme climate and high altitude of Hokkaido produce a wood that is prized for its close, even grain.

It's Time for BBQ (8/27/2008)

Most police officers don’t appreciate being called pigs, but when it comes to name calling, three UWG police officers don’t mind it at all.  Lt. Charlie Marlar, Lt. Ned Watson and Sgt. Billy Stuart are the “Smokin’ Pigs Barbeque” team that has been rubbing and smoking their way through the state since last August.

A Fall Sports Preview (8/19/2008)

Everything is new for the West Georgia Wolves this fall. A new coaching staff, headed by Daryl Dickey, is at the helm. There is also a major influx of new players on both sides of the ball and will will try to erase the disappointment of last season’s 2-9 record.

Art Faculty Show Off Their Talents (8/19/2008)

Faculty in the Department of Art kicked off the fall semester at UWG with their Annual Faculty Exhibition that began on Friday, August 15. A reception is scheduled on Thursday, Aug. 21, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the lobby of the Humanities Building. The exhibit and reception are free and the community is invited to attend.

Lighting of the Flame Tradition Continues (8/15/2008)

The University of West Georgia tradition of the Lighting of the Flame celebrated knowledge, light and warmth with the new class of 2012. Hundreds of freshman marched with the UWG band to light the Flame of Knowledge at the entranceway of the university.

Welcome Back (8/13/2008)

Fireworks and funnel cakes will welcome students to the University of West Georgia campus on Thursday, August 14, one day before the official start of the fall semester. The annual event begins at 7 p.m. with a freshman student march to the UWG Flame of Knowledge.

UWG Named as a Best Southeastern College (8/13/2008)

The Princeton Review has recognized the University of West Georgia as a Best Southeastern College for the year 2009. The recognition marks the sixth consecutive year that UWG has been awarded the prestigious listing.

The University of West Georgia received its second national recognition by Creative Colleges: A Guide for Student Actors, Artists, Dancers and Musicians, a publication that selects the top 200 schools in the nation for its creative programs for students.

Trip in Bayeux Adds Depth to Study (8/5/2008)

During the summer months, most UWG students are content to take a well-deserved break before starting school again in the fall. Others take advantage of the time by studying abroad, like the 10 art students who traveled to Bayeux, France in July. The trip, spearheaded by Dr. Anne Gaquere, lecturer and Art Study Abroad program director, and Kevin Shunn, chair of the Art Department, was a unique opportunity for students to witness firsthand what they typically only see in textbooks.
